A Celtic Aloha

Oceans Apart - Islands Together
- - - - - -

Although half the world separates the islands of Hawaii and Ireland, they have more in common than most people think. Song and dance are essential parts of tradition and culture in both lands. A Celtic Aloha brings together these elements in an entertaining and informative show in which songs, tunes and even a little dancing, along with plenty of humor and audience participation, are presented.

Origins to the performance lie in a visit to Hawaii in 2000 by London-Irishman, Jamie O'Brien. He met Maui musician, George Kahumoku Jr., and together they began to explore connections between their traditional musical repertoires.

Music played an important part in Jamie's younger days, especially the songs he learned from his father, grandparents and other family members. Over the years he has collaborated with many other musicians from the world of traditional and contemporary Irish music, developing a wide repertoire of songs, many rarely heard. Since his initial visit to Hawaii, he has worked with numerous musicians there and learned an impressive collection of both English language Hawaiian-themed songs and songs in Hawaiian.

Jamie is joined by mandolinist and singer Henry Koretzky, a Pennsylvania native with an extensive background in a wide range of folk and Americana musical styles.
